Thanks to our involvement with CommonWealth 5, the people at Chronicle news decided to feature The Knitting Connection in a show dedicated to highlighting local charities. Candy Booras, who works at CommonWealth 5 and is the leader of her local Girl Scouts troop, contacted Sue Manning after seeing The Knitting Connection on the CommonWealth 5 website and asked if her troop could stuff some of the stockings that would be donated to shelters. The Girl Scouts agreed to stuff 60 stockings--enough for 4 shelters. A stocking stuffing party was organized, to which Sue and some of our knitters brought stockings to stuff, while the Girl Scouts brought gifts and toys to stuff the stockings with--an event truly fulfilling our motto to link one end of the spectrum to the other. Reporters from Chronicle News were at the party interviewing Sue, various knitters, representatives from the shelters and the Girl Scouts Troop leaders. The party was held on Thursday, November 13, and the news segment aired at 7:30 on Channel 5 on December 9, 2003. The stockings were donated to the Medford Family Center, the Boston Family Center, Casa Nueva Vida, and the Spaulding Hospital Brain Injury Unit for Children.
