The Knitting Connection, Inc.
"No child should be without a hat, mittens, and a Christmas stocking..." - Sue A. Manning, Executive Director
-
What is The Knitting Connection? We started a volunteer program by collecting yarn and distributing it to volunteer knitters/crocheters to make hats, mittens, scarves, sweaters, afghans, baby booties, layette sets, and Christmas stockings for needy children. We are based in Medford, MA, but donate crafted goods to children all over Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The requests for donated items has increased, and all help and donations are truly appreciated. The Knitting Connection, Inc. is a 501©(3) non-profit organization.

What is the age range of children you serve?Children come in all sizes, and love all colors and designs. We service newborns to age eighteen.

I tried to contact you, but received no response. If you contact us and we do not get back to you within two days, please try again--there is a reason: a. Senior Moment b. Misplaced note c. Plumb forgot d. Swamped with work e. All of the above THANKS!
-
If I want to donate items, what do I make them out of?Knitters, crocheters, quilters and crafters work with whatever they feel comfortable with, and we can provide donated materials. 50% of our crafters will use their own materials, and 50% use materials we provide.
-
When can I donate my craftwork?Crafters turn in items all year long. You will receive one Thank You note per calendar year.
-
When are the donations distributed to the children? The annual distribution week is always the week after Thanksgiving. We TRY to have an annual party which is scheduled the second Thursday after Thanksgiving. To be eligible for an invitation your gifts must be in and recorded no later than November 1st of that year. The purpose of the party is to have the directors of the various shelters come and say thank you to the knitters, crocheters, quilters and crafters.
-
How do I donate my craftwork/get yarn from you?If you are close to Medford, MA, you can make an appointment by E-mail or Online Form to arrange a drop off or pick up. If you are outside the Boston area, you will have to send in your donations to our Mailing Address. Sorry, we do not mail yarn.
-
Does it matter what kind of yarn I use?All other yarn other than 100% acrylic must be labeled on the front of the item in large letters: 100% WOOL, WOOL BLEND, 100% COTTON, or MIXED.
-
That's a great sweater, can I buy it from you?No, sorry! All items collected throughout the year are saved strictly for the children we serve.
